Family sharing

One subscription. Up to 4 grown‑ups. Every bedtime.

Your partner, a co-parent in another home, the grandparents who do Tuesday bedtimes — everyone who reads to your children can share them, their world, and their stories, each on their own phone.

The Once home screen, shared by a family

What a family shares

Your children

Everyone reads to the same children, with the same ages and details.

Your World

Grandma, the dog, the lake house — added once, used by everyone’s stories.

The shelf of stories

A story made on one phone is on everyone’s shelf, to read again that night or years later.

Premium

If anyone in the family subscribes, every grown-up in it has premium — one $49.99 a year covers the whole household.

What stays yours: your own sign-in, and your own permission for stories to be written by AI.

“My grandchildren are in every story — and so are Grumpy, Honey’s house, and the golf cart. I’m obsessed.”
Susan, grandmother of three

Adding someone takes a minute

  1. Step 1

    Invite

In the app, open Profile › Your Family and tap Invite. You get a code, a QR code and a link to send. It works for 24 hours.

  2. Step 2

    They join

They install Once on their own iPhone or iPad, sign in with their own Apple or Google account, and choose Join a Family.

  3. Step 3

    Read together

From then on you share children, Your World, stories and premium — each of you on your own phone.

Not ready to join? Send them one story.

Share any story by private link. It opens in any browser and writes itself in just like it does in the app — no app, no account. Perfect for a great-grandparent, an aunt, or the friend who’s in the story.

Questions

How many people can be in a family?

Up to 4 grown-ups — for example two parents and two grandparents, or co-parents in two homes. Children don’t count toward it; add as many as you like on premium.

Does everyone need to pay?

No. One subscription covers the whole family. If anyone in it has premium, everyone does.

Who can invite people?

The person who started the family. Invite codes last 24 hours, and a new one can be made any time.

What if they already use Once with their own children?

When they join, their children, their stories and their Your World come with them into the family. Someone already in another family needs to leave it first, so nothing moves by surprise.

How are stories counted?

They’re shared by the household: 45 a month on premium — a story every night with some to spare — or, on the free plan, a story every night for the family’s first week and then one a week, counted across everyone.

Does each person have their own login?

Yes. Everyone signs in with their own Apple or Google account on their own phone, and each person gives their own permission for stories to be written by AI.

What happens if someone leaves?

The children, stories and Your World stay with the family, because they belong to the household. The person who leaves starts again with a world of their own.

Can someone read a story without joining?

Yes. Share any story by link and it opens in any browser, with nothing to install or sign in to. Links stop working after 30 days, or whenever you turn them off.
